Kitchen Planning Phase 1 Part 3

I got the drawings back from David today for the kitchen. When I went to the showroom I told him what I wanted: no uppers, drawers only, the sink and dishwasher on the island (Jo's request) a wet bar on the entry wall and I had him throw in a drawing for my TV to boot. But then I saw this over head cabinet that when you pull up on it, the door opens like a door on a Ferrari. So I had him throw those in the drawings just in case I changed my mind.

I have always thought that in terms of material oak was my enemy. Oak is so 70's. So I was shocked when David told me the sample I loved in the showroom was in fact oak. It's called rift cut oak. I got the quote for it today and although it's looks beautiful the cost reminded me of how much I hate oak. So I contacted my guy David and told him to put some numbers on other materials and to stop pipe dreaming. At this rate the kitchen is going to be built out of cardboard boxes that they store the rift cut oak cabinets in. Kidding! Sort of ................
Here's the idea....
This illustrates the kitchen entry, wet bar and part of the TV wall (on the false wall)

If you start to turn to the left slightly here is the island, TV wall, and the overhead cabinets (which he took to an extreme by the way, really four of them?)
Here is a straight on view of the island and back cabinet wall.

Side view.

The front of the island

Birds eye.

Here is a picture of the kitchen to date.....just for perspective.
