Since we removed the wacky wall that ran through the middle of the kitchen (pictured, see the red trim if you follow that line that is where the beam runs now). We had to place a new support in the kitchen, my concern was if the beam was covered in drywall would it look stick out like a sore thumb? Also if the beam was covered in drywall it would drop the beam even lower.
So we decided to have a wood beam fabricated to give the kitchen texture, warmth while creating purpose for the support. Stay tuned the beam goes up today......... In the mean time here are some inspirational pictures of beams.
